Salt Therapy
In our salt room, dry salt aerosol is simply the combination of micronized salt and air. A halogenerator grinds salt into tiny, invisible particles, which are dispersed into the room. Throughout a halotherapy session, you may hear the halogenerator operating; this keeps the level of salt in the air constant and therapeutic. At the end of the session you may notice a slightly salty taste on your lips and any exposed skin, but this is perfectly normal.
Aerosolized salt is reported to have natural decongestant and cleansing properties that may help maintain breathing comfort and health. While one session can bring immediate temporary relief and a deep sense of calm, repeated exposure provides a deeper change, leading to improved wellness.

Sessions start on the hour and last 45 minutes each. Cost is $20 per session. Call to book private evening sessions for a group of 6.

Our salt room is wheelchair accessible. To prevent exposing sensitive clients, no perfumes or cologne may be worn.

Dress in comfortable clothes. No food or drink is allowed in the salt room. Foot covers are required and provided. You are encouraged to drink plenty of water before and after each treatment.
History of Halotherapy
More than 150 years ago a Polish physician noticed that miners who worked in in the salt caves did not suffer from lung disease that ailed coal miners. After his research came out and he set up a salt cave for therapy, people in Poland, eastern Europe and Russia flocked to the numerous salt caves and mines in the region for relief from respiratory conditions.
Fast forward to today, and modern technology allows people to get the benefits of salt therapy above ground in modern salt spas, where the effective and safe benefits of natural caves are faithfully replicated. In the United States, halotherapy (or salt therapy) is one of the many complementary and alternative therapies available.
About Himalayan Crystal Salt
Himalayan Crystal Salt comes from the original prime body of the sea, The Primal Sea. It was created when the Primal Sea, the place where scientists believe all life originated, was evaporated by the sun’s energy. Over millions of years, land masses formed on top of these salty deposits, compressing them under tremendous force and creating what is now known as Himalayan Pink Salt.
Pure Himalayan Crystal Salt contains miraculous healing properties for both the environment and our bodies. The air is filled with negative and positive ions. To maintain a healthy atmosphere, these negative and positive ions must remain in balance. Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. Kathie Whalen
Kathie Whalen is a Licensed Massage Therapist, Reiki Practitioner / Master Level and Sound Healing Practitioner. She has been a Massage Therapist since 1997. She began her Sound Healing training in 2001. She became a Reiki Practitioner in 2003 and completed her master level in 2009 in the Usui System Of Natural Health. She continues to attend workshops, classes and events in natural therapies. The majority of the massage work Kathie has been involved with has been in the medical community, hospitals, physical therapy facilities, cancer centers and chiropractic offices. Kathie’s goal is to assist individuals in feeling better through natural therapies. All of these therapies are relaxing, gentle, safe and comforting. They work in conjunction with all medical or therapeutic care to manage pain, relieve side effects and promote recovery. Kathie moved to Sterling in 2017 so she could spend more time with her family. Kathie is accepting appointments for Reiki, Sound Healing, Face and Scalp Massage & Hand and Forearm Massage.
